Te Aroha main street - blue or green?

Coulter Bridge 2025 1

Te Aroha, blue or green? We’ve received external funding to renew the streetlights on the main street, and some lovely lantern-style lamps are heading our way.

But we need your help with the colour! We're regularly in touch with passionate community members who are working hard to make our town more visually appealing and welcoming for locals and visitors alike. Some have suggested instead of keeping the current blue, we change the colour to the deep, heritage green used in Te Aroha Domain for a more cohesive, unified look and feel. We are also renewing the Coulter Bridge lights which will be the deep, heritage green.

We have an opportunity to make this change mid-2026 when we install the streetlights but just want to check in with the Te Aroha community first.

What would you like us to do?  Keep the blue or change to green? Both are designed to blend in with the streetscape and complement Te Aroha’s heritage palette.

As you may have noticed and as you can see in the images below, all of Te Aroha's street furniture is currently blue. But it may not always be this way. Seats and rubbish bins are on their own renewal plan and the style and colour may change over time. As long as the new colour of the streetlights complements the existing street furniture, we are good to go. Please note, this project only has funding to include the streetlights. It does not include painting the other street furniture. They will remain blue for the forseeable future.

Let us know your pick by filling out our quick and anonymous poll below by 3pm, Monday, 9 February 2026.
