Increasing water flow to Morrinsville

The Lockerbie Water Treatment Plant (WTP) was officially opened on 9 September 2024, increasing water security for the Morrinsville community. Part of commissioning a new water treatment plant for us involves testing in phases.

Stage one involved bringing the new plant online and feeding treated water into the Morrinsville supply at a low flow rate. With the upgrade of the water main and pipework at the intersection of Coronation Road, Snell Street and Studholme Street, the time is now right for us to undertake stage two testing. This testing at higher flow rates will confirm the capability of Lockerbie WTP and allow us to make any further changes needed to ensure reliability of this water source for Morrinsville.

From Monday 18 August you will see our teams out and about in Morrinsville flushing hydrants to maintain water pressure and clarity and also being on hand in case any issues arise. The testing is expected to take five days.

During this time, cloudy water caused by air bubbles is normal and can generally be cleared by running your tap until it clears. If you notice discoloured water, if your water stops flowing or if you notice a leak or pooling where there shouldn't be, please give us a call on 0800 746 467 or log an Antenno.

Investment in the district’s water and wastewater infrastructure will continue, with wastewater projects a big focus of the 2024-2034 Long Term Plan.
