Water restrictions
In summer, we keep a close eye on the levels of the rivers and streams that feed our water supply, as well as the weather and other indicators such as soil moisture levels. Water is not an unlimited resource, and there are limits on how much we can take.
Despite a bit of rain recently we've certainly noticed it heating up, and NIWA has forecast a hotter than usual January - March. Soil moisture levels in our district are also looking pretty low compared to historical averages and especially when compared to this time last year.
Depending on where you live, your water will come from different catchments. The amount of drinking water available for our towns is influenced by how much water is in these areas.
After considering current levels and the future forecast, Te Aroha is now at level 3 water restrictions and the rest of the district remains at level 2.
