New Chief Executive announced for Matamata-Piako District Council
An experienced local government professional with a demonstrable track record has been named as Matamata-Piako District Council’s next Chief Executive.
Manaia Te Wiata, who has been the Group Manager Business Support at Council for the past 30 years, will take up the position at the helm of the organisation when current CEO Don McLeod retires.
Mayor Adrienne Wilcock said "the position of CEO is critical to a strong, progressive Council, so we went through a thorough external recruitment process. We were impressed with the high calibre of candidates for the role, and went through several rounds of interviews.”
"Manaia was a clear stand out from the pool of candidates and the council was unanimous in appointing him to the role."
The Mayor highlighted Te Wiata's unique combination of strategic vision, leadership, and community passion: “He is not only a skilled leader but also genuinely cares for this community. His track record, strategic focus, and local connections make him the perfect fit for the CEO position. I’m confident he’ll provide excellent continuity for our staff and the community, building on the strong legacy of Don McLeod, who has served the Council and community for 25 years.”
McLeod himself endorsed the Council's decision, commenting "the community will be in safe hands with Manaia's leadership. He has been a valued part of Council's executive team for 30 years and his understanding of our projects, goals, and community needs is second to none.”
Details regarding the handover from McLeod to Te Wiata will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
