Plan Change 61: National Planning Standards and other changes

We’re changing the format of our District Plan to line up with the Ministry for the Environment, National Planning Standards. The Standards aim to make council plans and policy statements easier to use and understand.

We're also looking to add some key proposed changes to the district plan and want to hear from you about:

  • zoning of reserves
  • consulting with mana whenua
  • increasing residential living opportunities in town centres
  • replacing 'dependant person dwellings' with 'minor residential units'
  • increasing the space between the boundary and some buildings where animals are kept in the general rural and rural lifestyle zones
  • rezoning portions of our town centres
  • and other proposed changes

If you’re keen to join the conversation around this plan change or need more information, here are some simple ways you can connect with us:

  • Share your thoughts online at mpdc.nz/planchange61
  • Join us at one of three pop-in sessions across the district where we'll have staff available to talk about Plan Change 61 and other current Council-related topics.
