Election and voter return final results 2019

Vote2019 colourVote2019 colour M

The Matamata-Piako District had the highest voter turnout in over a decade in this year’s local government elections, with 51% of eligible voters turning up to the polls.

Final election results were declared on 18 October 2019 with a 51.5% voter turnout. And with a mayoral race and every ward highly contested, it’s no surprise that eligible voters were keen to have their say. This is a 27.4% increase from the 2016 election which only resulted in a 24.1% voter turnout – and the largest increase from among all provincial councils in New Zealand.

We were the third highest voter turnout from Council’s In the Waikato, trumped by Taupo (52.2) and Waitomo (52.6) and the second highest voter turnout for provincial councils – with Tasman DC leading.

The final results are posted on our website and the swearing in ceremony will be held at the MPDC Council Chambers.

Below are the detailed final results for the Matamata-Piako elections. All votes received have been counted and verified. The contact details for the Mayor and Councillors can be found here: https://www.mpdc.govt.nz/our-council/councillors-mayor
