Entries for the 2022 Bayleys Matamata Piako District Business Awards have now closed and all entries have been sent to our independent judges. Keep an eye out for finalists which will be announced next week. While you wait, don't forget to vote for your favourite business in the Fonterra People’s Choice Award!

Award Categories

Trades, Manufacturing and Primary Industries.

Recognises businesses operating in the trades, manufacturing, engineering, building, rural or primary industries.  Those that use effective methods and techniques focusing on improvement in quality, innovation, cost production, waste reduction, customer service and health and safety.


Consumer Services

Recognises businesses in the retail, tourism and hospitality industries.   The sale of goods and services, face-to-face or online.  Those that deliver a quality experiences and activities in the tourism industry, or those that deliver excellence in the hospitality industry such as accommodation and dining.


Professional Services

Business whose principal activity is the provision of services.  Showing strength in business growth, innovation, training and personal development.  This includes (but not limited to) legal, real estate, medical and financial services.


New and Emerging Business

Business that has achieved significant growth during the last one to five years as a result of effective planning and delivery.  The business must have started trading after 31 March 2018.  Please note that dates have been extended to a five year operation due to no award being contested since 2019.


Bayleys Supreme Award

All category winners are eligible for the Bayley’s Supreme Award except the People’s Choice Award, which is decided by public vote.


Fonterra People’s Choice Award

Businesses in this category are nominated by the public.  To win, nominees must gather as many votes as possible to prove they are the People’s Choice. Businesses will be contacted by the awards committee to confirm that they accept the nomination. They will be required to supply a business bio on what makes them the People’s Choice.

  • There is a People’s Choice Awarded to a business in Morrinsville, Matamata and Te Aroha.
  • Voting for finalists will close 5.00pm Friday 19 August 2022
  • Nominations and voting will take place online
  • People’s choice winners are not eligible for the Bayleys Supreme Award (unless separately entered into and won a specific category)
