This short walk starts from the corner of Mills and Walker Streets (Waharoa), leading through a reserve of mainly mature New Zealand Kahikatea. This stand of Kahikatea is included in the Matamata-Piako District Plan as a significant site. Hawes Bush was originally purchased by Matamata County Council in order to preserve existing stands of native bush that once existed across the Matamata plains.
