Safer speed limits around schools
New speed limits and other changes are coming to schools around our district in the coming months. As part of our Speed Management Plan we will be changing speed limits around some of our small towns, including outside of schools during drop-off and pick-up times. These changes are aimed at ensuring safer journeys for students, including those who choose to walk, bike or scooter to school.
Thanks to NZTA Waka Kotahi, we can make a start on five schools and settlements that we have identified for the first round of improvements. We are looking at installing signs, road markings, and rumble strips at these locations. The first areas to be receiving the new road safety improvements will be Tahuna, Springdale, Walton, Stanley Avenue, and Te Aroha College.
The work on the new permanent and variable speed limits will come into effect in June 2024, and we will be holding pop-up sessions prior to that where you can ask any questions you may have about the changes. Alternatively, you can submit any questions online here.
We’ll be holding information sessions outside the following schools between 2 – 3:30pm as follows:
- Tahuna School - Monday, 27 May
- Te Aroha College – Tuesday, 4 June
- Springdale School - Wednesday, 5 June
- Walton School – Tuesday, 11 June
- Stanley Ave School - Wednesday,19 June
