Following the storms on 21-22 January 2026, we haven't been able to assess all of the tracks yet so please be extremely cautious and check this update on what to expect and a few tips to help keep you safe.
Matamata Tracks
Matamata is a small town with scenic walkways. The town is flat making the walks suitable for all ages and abilities - the Tower Road Footpath track is a very popular walkway for locals.

There are also two parks in Matamata that are popular for walking - Centennial Drive and Tom Grant Drive. While these parks do not have any formed tracks or footpaths, their location and scenery make them very attractive to walkers.
Note that these are only tracks maintained by Council, you can find out about other local tracks by visiting the Matamata i-Site Visitor Centre or the Department of Conservation
