Things we think we should focus on

Te Aroha Spa

Tell us what you think about Te Aroha Spa:
Our preferred option – work towards developing a new destination spa
Any other comments on Te Aroha Spa:
Agree that a staged development will help spread costs & ensure payback will commence as soon as possible. As this is funded by rate payers. Cost for use of This facility should be lower than entry fees for non-rate payers.

Additional water sources for Morrinsville

Tell us what you think about Additional water sources for Morrinsville:
Provide one additional water source for Morrinsville
Any other comments on Additional water sources for Morrinsville:
As Morrinsville currently has one water source, moving to 3 with double redundancy seems excessive. Also due to water reforms the additional expense for the third water source is more difficult to justify.

Facing the rubbish problem head on

Tell us what you think about Kerbside collections:
Our preferred option – changing kerbside collections from 2023
Any other comments on Kerbside collections:
Agree that the kerbside collections will have to change (rubbish bags are not very robust), however having a fixed sized bin & annual fee for rubbish collection I don't think supports the zero waste good -> there is no incentive to reduce waste if collection fee is fixed as there is no cost difference for putting out bin once a week, or once a month.
Tell us what you think about Resource recovery centres:
Our preferred option – establish two resource recovery centres
Any other comments on Resource recovery centres:
Having two RRC's 30km apart doesn't seem necessary.
Where does each material stream go from the RRC? If this is mapped the optimal location (either Matamata or Morrinsville) could be identified to minimise CO2 emissions of transport.

[Submitter has crossed the word "two" and replaced with "one" in ticked option and added (RRC) after 'centres']

Revitalising our town centres

Tell us what you think about Revitalising our town centres:
Don’t do it
Any other comments on Revitalising our town centres:
The town centres are already fantastic places with above average facilities. Apart from regular upkeep, we don't believe further improvements are required.

Mountain bike skills and dog park for Te Aroha

Tell us what you think about Mountain bike skills and dog park for Te Aroha:
Don’t do it
Any other comments on Mountain bike skills and dog park for Te Aroha:
$211,000 is a lot for a dog exercise area. It would be interesting to split this point into two -> "MTB Skills Park" and "dog park" and see if the same level of Feedback supporting the dog park alone justifies a $211k spend.

Improving walking and cycling connections

Tell us what you think about Improving walking and cycling connections:
Our preferred option – improving walking and cycling connections
Any other comments on Improving walking and cycling connections:
Having good walkways & cycle ways is a benefit to both residents & an attraction to visitors & tourists.

Dog park in Matamata

Tell us what you think about Dog park in Matamata:
Our preferred option – create a dog park at Swap Park
Any other comments on Dog park in Matamata:
With minimal rates impact & a community group driving the idea there is no negative impact to rate payers & obvious support for the idea. There are already plenty of dogs & dog owners that use swap park, creating a dog park with fencing would make usage safer.
What do you think about our proposed limits for rates and debt?
With the continued increase of costs to building & services, increasing rates is inevitable.
It is important that ratepayers see the value of their contribution with regular communication & updates on progress & spending.
What do you think about our plans for our other projects?
*Expanding housing for elderly should be a no-brainer, especially as it is self-funding.
*Planning ahead for the Morrinsville Recreation plan & protecting historic buildings e.g Te Aroha library are also important to maintain facilities & protect heritage sites. A cycleway is also a proven way to boost spending in the district.

Things we want to investigate/Looking further ahead/Things we're compromising on:

This consultation document provides a very interesting & exciting read. It is great to see the councils engagement with the community & an update post the collection of feedback would be good to see :)
