Comments on Rubbish collections and rubbish disposal availability.
There was an excellent article in the Morrinsville News dated Thursday March 18th 2021.
Issue No 194 Called "The Lateral Line" by Milan Radonich.
This article really highlighted the need to have accessible & affordable access to designated places for dumping rubbish. I certainly don't condone what people have been doing in dumping their rubbish in the river. It is inexcusable. As an aside: If farmers did this on rivers running through their farms and it got found out there would be a huge hue and cry. Where are the same voices when townies dump rubbish in the rivers running through their towns.
On rubbish collections: The present pink bags are very unsatisfactory. They are too small and too fragile. How about giving every household a 120L bin for rubbish only, and collecting it fortnightly. (Keep the recycling bins as well)
It would give households a decent size and sturdy container and halve the number of truck trips around the town which has to be a saving. Hopefully it would at least keep smaller items out of the rivers as people would have a viable alternative.
There would need to be provision for householders to reasonably conveniently empty their own bins at no cost at designated places because if a collection was missed 4 weeks between collections would be excessive.
