Description

On 16 November 2025, Morrinsville celebrated the opening of its brand-new 9-hole disc golf course, a project led by local community member Hamish Furniss to bring a fun and inclusive activity to Morrinsville for everyone to enjoy.

Disc golf is easy to learn and people of all ages and abilities can play, making it a great new addition for the Morrinsville Recreation Ground. Around 60 people came along for the opening, taking part in games, learning the basics, and enjoying the new course together.

The initiative was supported by the Community Development and Partnerships team through council's Pride of Place Community-Led Initiatives Grant and was made possible with wide council support from elected members, Parks and Facilities teams, and KVS. Our team also worked with the Waikato Disc Golf Association and local residents to promote the opening and encourage community involvement.

The course is officially open for FREE, ongoing public use, and will be maintained by the Waikato Disc Golf Association.

Hamish’s project has turned the area into a space for play and connection, and it’s set to become a regular spot for locals and visitors alike. If you would like to learn more about Disc Golf or attend an event, check out the Waikato Disc Golf Facebook page for more information
