Description

On 7 September 2025, the Morrinsville Gallery hosted Push the Light, a powerful presentation by artist Charlotte Giblin during the inaugural Aotearoa Eating Disorder and Body Image Awareness Week. Through art and storytelling, Charlotte opened hearts and minds to the realities of eating disorders. About 25 people came along, including mental health professionals and locals, who left with fresh insights about this deeply sensitive topic.

Our Community Development & Partnerships team helped make it happen with Council’s Pride of Place Community-Led Initiatives Grant, which brought Charlotte’s talk to Morrinsville and funded take-home resources for attendees. Our team also worked with the gallery and Eating Disorders Carer Support to share the event widely and encourage community involvement.

The impact was clear - attendees said they felt “seen” and inspired, and some healthcare professionals have told Charlotte that they plan to use her concepts in their work. The gallery has invited Charlotte back for its 15-year anniversary, and she is planning talks in schools, workplaces, and universities. To reach out to Charlotte, head to www.charlottegiblin.com
