Description

Over the past six months, our Community Development and Partnerships team has partnered with Mana Rangatahi, a local youth group supported by Te Ahurei a Rangatahi. Together, we’ve worked to empower young people to lead positive change in their community. This collaboration was supported by the Pride of Place Morrinsville Action Plan and was designed to help rangatahi to turn ideas into action and shape their own community projects.

Starting with a fun yarn bombing event at Morrinsville Recreation Ground, our team then ran three interactive workshops with Mana Rangatahi that focussed on team building, leadership, and exploring ideas for youth-led initiatives. Our final workshop unpacked Council’s Pride of Place – Community-led initiatives grant process, breaking it down into a simple “who, what, where, when, why” questions to turn the grant application process into a fun, creative challenge.

Through games, reflection, and brainstorming, the group developed their own idea for a community project - a “Free Lunch” community event to bring families together for kai, games, and connection. We’re proud to stand alongside these young leaders as they bring their vision to life and create spaces for connection in Morrinsville. If you would like to find out more about youth-led projects, feel free to get in touch with us at prideofplace@mpdc.govt.nz or call 0800 746 467.
