Description
Local resident and ‘Dog Whisperer’ –Ginny Stephens approached council to establish a community led dog park at the former grazing paddock under the railway bridge. Ginny used her own money to buy a professional ride on mower and received generous donations from AgPlus who service her equipment. Ginny has transformed a once weedy cow paddock into a stunning off lead dog park for all to enjoy. She has worked with keep Te Aroha beautiful to plant native plants on the ‘hard to mow areas’
MPDC gave approval to create a dog park on the site. MPDC now offer ongoing funding to pay for Ginny’s fuel costs to mow the dog park
By supporting our community member with minor funding they have been able to continue maintain the park to a high standard at a very low cost. We now have a stunning, dog exercise area by the river.
While the dog park has been fully established, there are many more opportunities to develop it further and our community members have indicated a desire for improved access routes and signage.
