Description
Local Resident and Native Gardening Enthusiast –Mary Hansen designed a stunning fern garden for Te Aroha Domain, the fernery replaced the abandoned aviary. Mary worked with volunteers and sponsors to procure, develop and maintain the fern garden which showcases attractive new Zealand native plants at the Mt. Te Aroha Trail head offering a well-deserved rest stop for hikers.
MPDC supported by approving Mary’s design, connecting Mary with other volunteers, connecting Mary with generous donors who provided plants, donated $300 worth of native plants, provided mulch, assisted with labour for installation and maintenance, offered advice on plant varieties and take away green waste.
Our community member was delighted with the support that mpdc was able to offer in order to enable the project to come to life
After a period of time, our community member felt that they were able to maintain the entire space and have consolidated the fernery into a smaller more manageable area. Mpdc maintains the rest of the space as regular parks maintenance.
