Full description of idea:

To engage New Zealand’s to visit Matamata and make it a destination we could turn the township or part of into a Hobbiton themed area by changing the facades and having a road closed off as designated for a farmers market on a monthly/ fortnightly basis. Also once a year have a Hobbiton weekend with markets fun activities and street music during the day and a Hobbit Ball on Saturday night and on Sunday have a Hobbit picnic.

How this idea will benefit the community:

It would boost visitor numbers and provide reason for people to spend time in the local shops.
The hobbit weekend would bring visitors back to the B&Bs. It would provide opportunity for local groups to get involved and earn some extra money.
I was on the committee for the Mangawhai walking weekend and we raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Mangawhai tracks trust to which I was a Board member.
