Full description of idea:

Create a destination playground. Some playgrounds that are especially engaging feature some or all of the following: wide and tall slides, flying foxes, large hamster wheels, water-play, splash pads.

How this idea will benefit the community:

It should go without saying that a well-designed, well-situated, and inspired playground will provide a focus for the community, build strong connections, trust, and social and physical well-being. In addition, there is a collateral economic benefit. At the intersection of two main highways, Matamata has exceptional placement to capture visitors to and from Auckland and the Bay of Plenty. If people have a good excuse to stop, such as a destination playground, they are more likely to stay in town longer and therefore spend money locally as well. This benefits local business-owners and in turn, benefits the community by creating a viable and vibrant town centre leading to more jobs, employment opportunities, and ultimately ratepayers.
