Full description of idea:

We have a poor playing surface at the Matamata Domain and one that has deteriorated markedly over the last couple of years. A Tiger Turf (artificial) surface, with a fitness trail, around the outside, on the area where the athletics track used to be opens up the reality that Matamata Swifts AFC, Matamata Primary School, St Josephs Primary School and Matamata Sports Centre members and users, along with the general public, could better use this space.

How this idea will benefit the community:

A central hub for football, which is currently a growing sport in terms of participation, with a superior surface opens up the opportunity for the sport to better use this space at the Domain. It will also give the two neighbouring schools a reliable surface for use during the school week. A fitness trial around the Domain will give regular users of the Sports Centre, along with other community members, a useful and vital central sporting facility to enjoy. It will help promote health, fitness and well-being as a key community activity. Such a facility in Matamata, given the town's location, could also act as a draw, by bringing Waikato and Bay of Plenty footballing activities and events to our community on a regular basis. Tiger Turf is multi-purpose, and can also be used for sports such as cricket and rugby. This would open up the Domain for use by a variety of community groups.
