The draft 2023/24 Annual Plan includes some significant changes to your rates for next year.  You can read more about what we’re planning here.

But how will it affect you?

The draft 2023/24 Annual Plan proposes that we need to collect 16.9% more in rates (that’s just over $7 million) to deliver our services and projects for the next 12 months.  This increase will affect your next (August) rates bill. Not every ratepayer will pay 16.9% more - some will pay more, some will pay less depending on what services you receive and the value of your property.

This is because your rates bill is made up of three types of rates:

  • Targeted rates - charges for specific services, only charged to the people who receive those services (e.g.water, kerbside collection, rural halls).
  • District wide rates - these are charges for services that everyone benefits from (e.g. libraries, parks, transfer stations, roads). There are two types of district wide rates:
    • General rates - based on the capital value of your property - so the higher your property value, the more General Rates you pay.
    • Uniform Annual General Charge (UAGC) - a flat rate of $798.13 (proposed) that everyone pays.

How revaluations affect rates

Revaluations only affect the General rates portion of your total rates bill. In late 2021 all ratepayers received their revaluation notices – these revaluations don’t change the amount of money we collect from rates - they just help us work out everyone’s share of the General rates.

Property values increased across the district by an average of 20.3%, but the increases across the district ranged from 0.2% right up to 80%. If your property has increased by more than the average, then you will pay a slightly larger share of the total general rates. If your property value has increased less than the average, you will pay a lower share of the total general rates.

The next district-wide rating revaluation is scheduled for 1 July 2024.

This information is provided under Section 27 of the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002 as an electronic representation of the Rating Information Database. This service is provided by Matamata-Piako District Council as a public service. Use of this service to retrieve information constitutes your awareness and agreement to the following conditions of use.

The valuations on this website are not intended to be used in the buying and selling of properties. They are not current market valuations; they are a ‘rating value’ as at 01 July 2021 and have been prepared solely for the purpose of calculating rates. The figures displayed on this website should not be used as confirmation of the actual rates payable on a property.

Please note that the Rating Information Database only lists properties in our database at 1 July. If the property that you are looking for is relatively new (i.e. added since 1 July) then you will not find it when searching here, as it is not rated until the rates are determined on the following 1 July. For specific details, please contact Customer Services on 0800 746 467.

The map only shows the approximate location of the property, it does not show exact property boundaries and should be used as a basic location guide only.

If the property is made up of more than one land parcel, each parcel will be displayed individually. This means that to get a complete picture of the rating information for that property, you will need to view the links for each parcel (for example, if 123 Example St is made up of three parcels, you will get three results when searching this address, and the information in all three adds up to be the information for that property).

The preparation and provision of the information has been made in good faith from a number of sources. While all due care has been taken, Matamata-Piako District Council does not give any warranty in regard to the availability, accuracy, completeness, currency or reliability of the information. Matamata-Piako District Council and it employees will not be liable in any way for any loss, damage, injury, or loss in value to any person, property, service or otherwise suffered as a result of the use of and/or reliance on the rating valuation information published on this website.
