Waitangi Day

Together with the Te Manawhenua Forum mo Matamata-Piako we are holding a whaanau friendly community event to celebrate Waitangi Day in our district.

This year's event will be co-hosted with Ngaati Hauaa and Ngaati Hinerangi and will take place at Matamata Domain on Tuesday 6 February from 10am to 2pm. A mihi whakatau and karakia will be held at 9am.

The day will be focused on what the Treaty means to us as a district and to our people. We are planning to have a haangi and entertainment, as well as offering free access to Swim Zone Matamata. There will also be storyboards to tell the story of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and encourage community conversation and koorero.

We are inviting whaanau/community/sports groups to come along and share with us what Waitangi Day means to them and to use this whaanau day as a fundraising event by organising activities or food/beverage sales.

If you're interested in being part of this event, and would like to have a stand/stall on the day, or would like to support the day in any other way, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. using Waitangi Day in the subject line.
