A lot of research has gone into making this stadium as unobtrusive as possible, with special consideration taken for lighting design, acoustics, size, and speed limits. There will be a standard curfew of 10pm for evening sports and activities. We want to make this facility an asset to the community, rather than a hinderence.

This project has the potential to provide a larger sport and recreation facility that will complement Headon Stadium. The recent upgrade to Headon was carried out with this project in mind because as the town and district continue to grow it’s important there are a range of places and opportunities for people to be active. When the build is complete, Matamata will have two indoor spaces that cater for different community needs.

Reports and feedback from all parties including MPDC, Sport Waikato, and the Ministry of Education recommended that our community stadium be built on Ministry of Education land (Matamata College grounds) with the entrance coming off Station Road.

Many sports teams have to travel outside the region to participate in team sports, we want to provide a local area to do this.

This is a facility that will be available for everyone in the community to use.

To date $9 million has been raised for the $11 million build, which includes $3 million from MPDC. The remaining amount will be raised through grants and fundraising.
