Water treatment in the Matamata-Piako District

We are consistently upgrading and improving our plants with cutting edge technology and systems to significantly improve the water infrastructure in our district and allow for growth.

This is improving our water quality, taste, appearance and supply, as well as keeping us to standard with water regulations from Taumata Arowai.

The diagram below shows the basic process of how your water is treated. All the water treatment plants in our district look slightly different, but they all share similar processes with the same result - clean, healthy water for you and your family.

Assessment of Communities' Access to Drinking Water

Matamata-Piako District Council has completed its Assessment of Communities' Access to Drinking Water. The assessment provides a district-wide overview of how communities access drinking water, including both Council-supplied and privately supplied sources such as bores, rainwater and springs.

The assessment identifies current drinking water services, considers their safety, quality, reliability and resilience, and highlights potential risks that may affect communities in the future. It provides an important evidence base for future water services planning and helps Council meet its obligations under the Local Government (Water Services) Act 2025.

The report does not commit Council to any specific projects or expenditure but ensures Council has an up-to-date understanding of drinking water access across the district.
