Mountain biking trails temporary closure
Many of you will be familiar with the shoe and gear cleaning stations that are now in place at the start of quite a few walks and trails around New Zealand to help protect kauri trees from Kauri Dieback Disease.
We are not immune to these dangers and recently became aware that some of the mountain biking trails in Te Aroha are putting the surrounding kauri trees at risk. We will be starting work with Ngāti Tumutumu and DOC this summer to improve trail surfaces and possibly re-align some trails as well.
Most trails will remain open, at this stage it’s just the ‘One Man’s Work’ mountain biking trail and some minor offshoots that will be closed while works are happening. We’ll let you know when these improvements have been made and the trails open again.
Thank you for your help in preserving the beautiful nature around our district. For more information on walking and cycling trails to enjoy this summer head to mpdc.nz/tracks.
