Late last year we asked you what you like, don’t like and what ideas you had for Morrinsville Rec to help us create a long term vision for the next 10-30 years. 

You told us you love The Rec for loads of reasons but mainly the River Walk, the large open spaces for sport and big community events, taking the dogs for a run-around, swimming, the mix of fields and hard courts, the lovely trees and how close it is to town. 

Common ideas were some sort of café/clubhouse, picnic/bbq and seating areas, a playground upgrade, pump track, fenced off-leash dog area, walking/bike tracks and for lighting to be installed and more sports to be played there to help it feel safer and more vibrant. There were also lots of comments and ideas for the pools, which will require their own detailed plans and consultation in future. 

We enlisted park design experts Resilio Studios to gather all of this information and use their specialised knowledge and design skills to draft up a range of concept plans, showing how Morrinsville Rec looks now and the different ways it could be laid out in the future. 

Now it’s time to bring these concept plans back to you, to see what you think! We’ll then be able to use your feedback to refine the plan and figure out what things we can achieve in the short term, to bring some of your great ideas to life.

For everything else, we’ll be able to break the final wish list up into smaller projects that will give us and sport/community groups something to work towards together over time, as funding and manpower allows.
