Toni O'Regan
Reserve on Spur Street, Te Aroha (Yellow A - portion opposite netball club and BMX track)
We’re looking at turning part of the reserve on Spur Street into a fenced off-leash area. What do you think?
I like it and would use it
Comments:
Would prefer the portion under the footbridge extended as 1st option.
Spur Street Esplanade, Te Aroha (Yellow B - portion near the Waihou River under the footbridge)
We’re looking at expanding the current Spur Street Esplanade into an off-leash area which will be managed by a community group but available for everyone to use. What do you think?
I like it and would use it

Would really love a few permanent dog activities added also if possible, yes having a larger area for dogs to run off leash is definitely required but alot of dogs like ours need mental stimulation aswell as physical exercise.
Some permanent agility obstacles and activities would also encourage people to not just let their dog off leash for a run but to actively join in with their dogs learning how to negotiate and use activities, which would have a positive overall improvement in dog owner/dog communication, listening skills and control of their unleashed dog.
These overall improvements dog owners and dogs will gain from it will have a larger overall impact community wise also as it will improve control required when unplanned situations happen that require in an emergency good control of your dog.
Ie: dog accidently is let out by a gate not latched properly on a private property - owner struggles to get dog to come to them through calling, dog comes into contact with another dog leashed or child playing, dog tries to play ignoring its owners calling and accidently causes injury to other dog or child - if communication and control was improved through mentally and physically stimulating activities avaliable for the owner to use with their dog the out come of this example situation has a higher percentage of being one that doesn't cause injury and ends with the dog owner calling their dog back to them and the dog responding positively and returning as asked.

Te Aroha boat ramp
We’re looking at removing the boat ramp reserve, changing it from an off-leash to an on-lead area, as it’s prone to flooding and has the Hauraki Rail Trail running through it. What do you think?
I agree, make it an on-lead area
Comments:
The dog ramp is not necessary as an off leash area if the area under the foot bridge is extended. The only downside to it becoming on leash is it will restrict dogs who enjoy swimming for health benefits, exercise, drinking and play.
Creating a ramp of staircase on the footbridge side that the river could be accessible for dogs to swim and drink etc would make the change at the best ramp to on leash alot easier to manage as dog owners would use the access to the river for their dogs through the fenced dog area where they can be control rather than continuing to still swim them at the boat ramp.
