Swim Zone Matamata is diving into the future

If you’ve been wondering what’s happening behind the fences at Swim Zone Matamata, here’s the scoop – and it’s good news. The team is giving the dive and toddler pools an upgrade that will keep them looking great and performing even better for years to come.

What started as a routine summer repaint turned into an opportunity to do something more innovative. During prep work, the crew spotted an opportunity to install a high-quality pool liner instead of traditional paint. This is the same technology used in modern aquatic centres around the world.

“We’re really pleased to be making this change,” says Swim Zone Matamata Facility Manager Rob Cassie. “These pools are nearly 80 years old, but they’ve still got plenty of life in them. This upgrade means less maintenance, fewer closures, and a better experience for everyone who visits.”

Rob says the liner is a game-changer for the facility. “Not only does it look good, it also helps prevent leaks, reduces maintenance and keeps the pools running efficiently for the community.”

The best part? The work is on track to finish before Christmas, so the pools will be ready for summer fun.

What else is happening at Swim Zone?

While the upgrade is making waves, there’s plenty going on across all Swim Zone facilities.

Swim Zone offers a range of programmes and options for all ages and stages and membership and casual swim fees are heavily subsidised to keep swimming affordable for families. Concession cards and memberships give access to all three pools in the district. Little Swimmers lets caregivers swim free when they bring a paying child. Active Health provides discounted rates with a referral from a health provider. The Summer Swim Card, at just $65, means school-aged kids can swim as much as they like during the holidays. There are even discounted rates for pool parties.

Swim Zone Morrinsville opens 17 November, and Swim Zone Te Aroha is open all year round. Meanwhile, while the upgrade is underway at Swim Zone Matamata, the indoor pool and outdoor lane pool remain open, along with aqua classes and swimming lessons. These pools cater to everything from casual swims to fitness training and learn-to-swim programmes. The team is also planning extra school holiday activities to keep kids active and building water confidence.

“We love seeing families enjoy the pools,” Rob says. “Come along this summer, join a class, or just pop in for a swim. And when the upgrade’s done at Swim Zone Matamata, we can’t wait for you to see the refreshed pools – they’re going to look fantastic.”
