New pop-up pump track arrives just in time for summer
Our district has a new pop-up pump track, thanks to funding from the Waka Kotahi Transport Choices programme.
The 65-metre-long mobile modular pump track can be set up in different configurations and is designed to ‘pop-up’ in different locations. The first location is at Anderson Park, Morrinsville Recreation Ground.
Adding a pump track to Morrinsville Recreation Ground was a popular idea received during our Reimagine Morrinsville Rec consultation last year. Morrinsville will have the first opportunity to enjoy the pop-up pump track, just in time for summer.
The track includes a circuit of hills and bumps, rollers, banked turns and features designed to be ridden by scooters, skateboards and bike riders "pumping" to get momentum by up and down body movements, instead of pedalling or pushing. No motorised vehicles allowed.
Morrinsville Recreation Ground recently welcomed another new addition to its track network, with the installation a 950m long, 3m wide perimeter path on the reserve that runs along the railway track from Lorne St to Avenue Road South. The concrete shared path better connects Morrinsville Rec to the town centre and neighbouring streets, creating another option for people to walk, bike, scoot or skate to Morrinsville Recreation Ground. It is also suitable for prams, wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
The new path joins up to the existing paths and river walk to create a loop and has two access points to the ground, including Anderson Park. Parts of the existing river walk have been widened and sealed, including a 3m wide chipsealed section along Avenue Road South and a 2m wide unsealed section along the river. The path installation and improvements were funded from the Waka Kotahi Transport Choices programme and Long Term Plan.
Visitors to the pump track will be able to bike, skate or scoot along the new perimeter path to reach the new pump track or access it from the Morrinsville Recreation Ground internal road. The new perimeter path is another project from the Reimagine Morrinsville Rec consultation.
