![]() | Storm water retention Pond for Western side of town |
Submitted by Michael Smith Council Services |
Full description of idea:
Currently under a water event the area on the western side of town floods, we held back the event to create a large pond, due to furnise estate being flooded and released this water slowly into the drain network over the next week as to not further flood. The land on the left of Station road (leaving town) currently going through consent and the subdivsion on Jellicoe rd will create a major storm water flooding issue as all this water travels through town. I would highly recommend a large holding pond be created on the corner of Polan park where the public walkway is. There also was a large flooded area at the back of Eldonwood which has been created due to poor storm water drainage in Eldonwood which I feel this farmers land has been compromised due to allowing this development.
How this idea will benefit the community:
Create a safer area for Matamata. If storm water is not managed or fixed this will lead to massive problems.
