Full description of idea:

In the short term prohibit heavy through traffic from driving on Broadway through the shopping centre. Make heavy traffic bound to and from Tauranga and Rotorua divert to where Highway 27 intersects with Highway 29. If this is not possible then it could be diverted along Burwood Road so it does not pass through the CBD.
In the long term there should be a separate heavy traffic bypass on a new route which skirts the town centre. I understand this has already been planned

How this idea will benefit the community:

The near constant rumble of heavy vehicles detracts from the quiet enjoyment of our rural town. It fills the air with polluting diesel smoke, and adds to the traffic congestion on Broadway. The amount of commercial through traffic has greatly increased in the past 3 - 5 years and it will get worse.There will have to be exceptions for service delivery to businesses in town, and locally based transport.
