Water notices

Matamata - 26-27 December 2025
27 Dec, 11am: Matamata returns to operating within level 2 water restrictions

Thank you for your patience and water conservation efforts while we located and repaired a water main break. The team have made good progress and Matamata can return to operating within level two water restrictions, which started on 18 December. See the article here.

Under level 2, sprinklers and garden irrigation systems can only be used on alternate days (even street numbers on even days, odd street numbers on odd days) between 6-8am and 6-8pm only. Watering by hand can take place anytime but avoiding the hottest part of the day helps to reduce the amount of water that evaporates which is good for plants and uses every drop well.

26 Dec, 5pm: Please conserve water outdoors while we locate and fix a mains break

Indoor water use can return to normal but please do not use water outdoors until further notice. Thank you for your patience - the team will return tomorrow to continue fixing the water main break.

Everyone should have water but if you don’t please call 0800 746 467. Another update will be provided tomorrow.

Please share this message with neighbours, friends and family. Thank you.

26 Dec, 8.30am: Please urgently conserve water while we locate and fix a mains break

We hope you had a Merry Christmas and enjoying your Boxing Day. Our team is out working hard to get everything back up and running again.

In the meantime, please stop all non-essential water use from now until further notice. Essential use means drinking and hygiene (like flushing toilets, preparing food and washing hands). Please do not use showers, wash dishes, wash clothing or use any water outdoors.

Please share this message with neighbours, friends and family. Thank you.

Water valve testing, ongoing around the district.

We are exercising water valves around the district to ensure they're working properly - this is an important part of maintaining our water network as it helps us identify issues early. This process may dislodge sediment and it's possible some properties may experience "dirty water".

If you notice dirty water, we recommend turning on an outside tap for a few minutes to flush through any sediment or air bubbles, which may cause discolouration to the water. If that does not solve the issue, please contact us 0800 746 467. Thank you for your patience.
