Streetlights
Te Aroha

We are aware of streetlights not working around Whitaker Street, Rewi Street, August Street, Wild Street, King Street and Burke Street in Te Aroha. We have logged these issues with our streetlight contractor and will let you know when we have a timeframe for repairs. 

In the meantime, please take extra care when walking, cycling or driving at night. 

Breen Place and Stirling Drive

We are aware of streetlight issues in this area and the repair has been passed on to Powerco after our own contractors attended the site last week and advised that it was a Powerco issue. Please ring Powerco directly if you have any concerns.


Temporary road closures    
Arts Under the Mountain - Te Aroha
From 6am-5pm on Sunday 2 November the following roads will be closed to traffic:
  • Whitaker Street from Kenrick Street intersection through to 128 Whitaker Street.
  • Kenrick Street from Whitaker Street intersection through to Church Street.

Pedestrian access only.

Mikkelsen Road

Mikkelsen Road will be closed at the intersections of McCabe, Goodfellow and Waihekau Roads on the following days so that Connell Contractors can carry out works including the installation of cable drums and concrete precast panels using a crane. Access will be available for residents and businesses at all times.

Dates and times of closures in 2025:

  • 7am-7pm on Thursday 13 November (additional day if delayed by weather - 7am-7pm on Friday 14 November)
  • 7am-7pm on Monday 24 November
  • 7am-1pm on Wednesday 26 and Friday 28 November
  • 7am-7pm on Wednesday 3 December
  • 7am-1pm on Monday 8, Wednesday 10 and Friday 12 December

In 2026:

  • 7am-7pm on Friday 23 January
  • 7am-1pm on Tuesday 27 and Thursday 29 January
  • 7am-1pm on Monday 2 February
McCabe and O'Donoghue Roads
McCabe Road (at its intersections with Lovegrove Road and Stanley Road South) and O'Donoghue Road (at its intersection with Waihekau Road) will be temporarily closed so that Move Specialist Lifting & Transport LTD Ltd can transport a transformer to Tauhei Solar Farm. Access will be available for residents and businesses at all times. 

The closure will be from 7am-1pm on Wednesday 12 November.


Roadworks
Morrinsville-Tahuna Road

Roadworks will take place on a section of Morrinsville-Tahuna Road from 28 October to 12 December 2025 (weather permitting). There will be resident and essential services access only during this time. Please check the map below to take a note of the detour and allow extra time for your journey.

For residents of Morrinsville-Tahuna Road and surrounds, to ensure your rubbish collection is not affected by the road closure, J Swap Traffic Management will place numbered stickers on your bins. If you wheel them to the front of your property, they will coordinate with rubbish trucks to ensure collections occur from designated closure points.

The contractor will ensure school buses, milk collections and other essential services will not be affected.

Proposed temporary road closure

Morrinsville Christmas Parade

We are proposing to close the following roads on Saturday 13 December 2025 from 11.30am-3.30pm so that the Morrinsville Chamber of Commerce can conduct the 2025 Christmas Parade.

  • Thames Street from the intersection of Lorne Street to the intersection of Canada Street.
  • Moorhouse Street at the intersections with Thames Street.
  • Studholme Street at the intersections with Thames Street.
  • Anderson Street between Lorne Street and McRae Street (Lear Street and McPherson Drive access via Page Street).

Anyone wishing to make a submission on the proposed closure should do so in writing to Leanne Keenan, to reach the Matamata-Piako District Council Office at PO Box 266, Te Aroha no later than midday on Thursday 13 November 2025.
