Looking for ways to keep the kids entertained these July school holidays? Across our district, there are several refreshed and new playgrounds ready to explore—perfect for getting out of the house, burning off some energy, and enjoying the outdoors.

In Morrinsville and Te Aroha, recent playground renewals at Lindale Reserve, Farmer Street Reserve, and Russell Reserve offer great options for a family outing. With a mix of updated equipment and familiar favourites, there’s something for children of all ages to enjoy—whether it’s climbing, swinging, or simply spending time at a local park.

Some of the equipment may even look familiar. As part of these renewals, selected pieces from Matamata Domain have been thoughtfully repurposed and given a second life:

• A swingset now features at Farmer Street Reserve
• A play module has been installed at Russell Reserve

Repurposing equipment helps reduce waste and make the most of existing resources. However, it’s not always possible—in many cases, playground renewals happen because equipment has reached the end of its safe working life or no longer meets current safety standards. These upgrades are one of the few times suitable equipment has been able to be reused.

Alongside these renewals, a brand-new playground at Maea Fields subdivision in Matamata (off Tokotoko Parade) is now complete. Delivered as part of the development—with stage one now nearing completion—the playground was designed through collaboration between Matamata-Piako District Council and the developer.

Developments like Maea Fields are planned to include key community infrastructure, such as playgrounds and green spaces, from the outset. Council works with developers to help ensure these areas are well-designed and contribute to creating connected, liveable neighbourhoods.

The Maea Fields playground has already proven popular, drawing great feedback during the recent subdivision open day, and is now ready to be enjoyed by local families and visitors alike.
