Recent changes to Policy, Bylaw and Fees

Thank you to everyone who took part in our recent consultations.
Council has now reviewed all feedback and adopted the proposed policies, bylaws and fees and charges, with only minor changes in some cases. Most items have been adopted as originally proposed. All changes come into effect from 1 July 2026.
Key decisions
Dogs Policy and Dog Control Bylaw
Retains off leash areas at Centennial Drive and Tom Grant Drive
Introduces a six month trial allowing dogs on leash in the town CBDs and parts of the Hauraki Rail Trail
Fees and Charges 2026/27
Adopted as proposed
Easter Sunday Shop Trading Policy
No change, shops can choose whether to open on Easter Sunday
Rates Remission and Postponement Policy
Adopted with updates for small additional dwellings
Land Transport Bylaw
Adopted as proposed, with updated provisions for road safety and shared spaces
