Temporary road closures
Smith Street, Matamata - 25 September
We will be closing a section of Smith Street between Station Road and Farmers Road from Monday 25 September for 5-6 weeks.
This is so our contractors J Swap can carry out road pavement works. This will involve digging out the existing pavement and construction of a new pavement and sealed surface.
The crews will be working between the hours of 7am and 7pm. We will keep weekend works to a minimum but may conduct some weekend works in order to meet deadlines or beat pending bad weather that may be detrimental to the pavement.
NB: The start date and works schedule timeframe is weather dependent and subject to change but we’ll keep you informed going forward.
Who will be affected
Residents living on Smith Street will be most affected and residents may experience noise and vibration from machinery during the construction work.
Matamata Intermediate, Matamata Christian School and Kids Corner will be impacted during the construction period. We have programmed the works to start during the school holidays to try to minimize disruption but works will still be progressing when school returns. Road users are advised to use the alterative roads.

Rubbish and Recycling pickup
Rubbish and Recycling trucks will be able to access the site to collect rubbish and recycling. Leave your bins out as normal and if the contractor is working close to your property, they will move the bins to a location where it can emptied and then return them to your property frontage.
Road works
McLaren Rd, Manawaru (info from letter delivered to residents 09 June 2023)
We are aware the current condition of McLaren Rd is far from ideal. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this is causing. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing wet weather and storm events over the past 10 months, our general road maintenance operations are over two months behind schedule.
We had programmed to have the failed areas on McLaren Rd stabilised late April or early May, but have not been able to due to the weather delays. The problem we now face is if we attempt to stabilise these areas now, due to high ground water table levels, the patches will stay soft and blow out within days, leading to more costly rework.
Where to from here:
- We are proposing to apply a temporary speed restriction of 50km/hr on the section from Waghorn Rd to Manawaru Rd.
- Our contractor will endeavour to fill the potholes as best they can.
- We have programme to carry out the stabilising repairs in August, weather permitting, after which the speed restriction will be removed.
In the longer term, we have this road programmed for reconstruction as budgets allow. Thank you for your patience over the next few months as we try and make improvements to McLaren Road.
