The Kiwanis Summer Reading Programme for 2011/12 is nearly here!
Kiwanis Summer Reading Programmes are all about getting kids into reading. This year's theme is 'The Big Bush Read'.
How does it work?
Registered children read library books then report in to library staff, each time they report in they receive a small incentive, an activity sheet and a sticker for their folder. When they've checked in three times they are eligible for the finale party at their local pool.
Each child receives a Reading Contract when they sign up for the programme, which is kept at home to remind them of their promise to read. The programme recognises the importance of reading together at home each day.
Reading for the programme needs to be done at home but can be reading by themselves, 'read with me' (for younger children) or family reading.
Kids can still participate if they're going away for the holidays, they just need to keep reading and recording their books, then report in to the library when they get back. You can also report by phone, email or fax - just talk to the library staff. Children need to report in at least 3 times, between 10am-noon, and 2pm-4pm.
How can I register?Registrations for the Big Bush Read are open from 12 December. You can now register by visiting any Matamata-Piako library or registering online below.
