Remediation Works are underway at Tui Mine. There will be heavy vehicles using Tui Road. We advise walkers to avoid walking down the road, or to keep well clear of the road at all times.
Starting at the Mokena Geyser, this pleasant 3 hour return walk passes through stunning bush and shallow mountain streams. At the Te Aroha Water Treatment Plant walkers may take a short detour to a scenic waterfall. The track continues through bush, crossing mountain bike tracks (please watch out for cyclists), eventually emerging on Tui Road near the tailings dam. Note that this northern end near Tui Road is Department of Conservation administered track. Walkers have the option of returning to their starting point by taking a seperate route through the Te Aroha township. Note that some parts of this track are quite steep.
