There was a 3.3 percent population growth in Matamata-Piako between 2001 and 2006. The population grew to 30,483. This is the first time the population has grown since 1991. The population was 29,847 in 1991, 29,661 in 1996 and 29,472 in 2001. Matamata, Morrinsville and Te Aroha have all increased in size between 2001 and 2006. Matamata increased by 228 people (3.8 percent), Morrinsville by 435 people (7.1 percent) and Te Aroha by 84 people (2.3 percent). View the populations of each town in the graphs below.
