Exciting progress is being made on the Matamata Domain Playground upgrade, with construction now well underway with most equipment pieces in place now. The new playground comes with the goal of creating an inclusive, engaging and accessible destination for families across the district and beyond.

Visitors to the site will notice significant progress, with the playground’s feature tower now constructed and fitted with a slide on each side. Work is taking shape on the flying fox and swing areas, which are beginning to evolve and will soon become exciting elements of the new play space. You might even spot a boardwalk between the memorial oaks, which has been elevated to protect the historical trees.

The playground has been designed with accessibility and inclusion at its heart. Accessible features are being incorporated throughout the entire playground, ensuring children of all abilities can enjoy the space. This includes considering different ways children experience and engage with play, including neurodiversity and sensory needs, with a range of play experiences, spaces and levels of challenge available throughout the playground. Highlights include a wheelchair-accessible trampoline, carousel, inclusive springer car and thoughtfully designed seating areas that provide space for wheelchair users to comfortably join family and friends. The project has aimed to create a welcoming environment where everyone can play, connect, and belong.

Other play features are also progressing well, with the monkey bars now built, and the toddler play area currently under construction. Once complete, the playground will offer a range of experiences for children of different ages and abilities, encouraging active play, exploration, and imagination.

It's fantastic to see what started as a vision from Matamata Futures Trust and the community, now becoming a reality. With construction continuing at pace, the community can look forward to seeing even more progress as we enter spring and this exciting new playground comes to life.
