District volunteers recognised for service

Close to 100 unsung heroes were recognised for their ongoing community involvement at the annual volunteers’ morning tea in Morrinsville.

Wallace Gallery played host to the event which included entertainment from local pianist Dan Jones, an interview with Volunteer Youth Ambassador Ben Brownlie, and a presentation by Mayor Jan Barnes.

In her address, Mayor Jan spoke of the vital role played by volunteers in the community, and whose ongoing commitment to their organisations ensured strong and connected communities.

“Volunteering is not an easy task. Volunteers give up a lot of their time to help others — they are passionate about their causes and make a significant diff erence.

“The ability of people to work willingly together for the betterment of their community and themselves is truly valuable.”

A high point of the morning was the exquisitely-presented catering and the opportunity for volunteers to network with others in the community and share stories.
