Matamata-Piako District Council is pleased to confirm that Matamata, Morrinsville and Te Aroha will be part of the next stage of the ultra-fast broadband (UFB) communications rollout, Mayor Jan Barnes said today.

The Government announced last week that phase two of the project would extend access to fibre to 151 more towns. Matamata is scheduled to be installed in 2020 and Morrinsville and Te Aroha in 2021.

“We are delighted that our efforts to have our towns included in the rollout have been successful,” Mayor Jan said. “We would like to see it happen quicker than when the contract currently provides for. We will be doing everything in our power to enable this to happen sooner.”

She said this included fast-tracking consents where required to give the contractor access to the road corridor.
