Nominations are now open for the inaugural Matamata-Piako Youth Awards 2017. The Volunteer Youth Ambassadors are looking for nominations across eight categories, generously supported by local business from around the district.

The Youth Awards aim to recognise the contribution that young people make to their communities

  • Noble & Lee Ltd Award for Leadership
    To recognise a young person in the Matamata-Piako District who displays great leadership skills. This can be either in school/at work/at home, or in their club/group/organisation.

  • Kaimai Cheese Company Award for Entrepreneurship 
    To recognise a young person in the Matamata-Piako District who displays entrepreneurial spirit and demonstrates potential to be a future business leader.

  • The Boltholder Award for Service to the Community
    To recognise a young person in the Matamata-Piako District who has made a significant contribution to the community through voluntary service. This may include through school/clubs/organisations/charities/local hospital or anything else.

  • Mitre 10 Matamata Award for Overcoming Adversity 
    To recognise a young person in the Matamata-Piako District who has overcome challenges to achieve success.

  • Wallace Gallery Morrinsville Award for the Arts 
    To recognise a young person in the Matamata-Piako District who has achieved success in, or made a significant contribution to, the performing, visual or literary arts

  • Property Brokers Employee Award 
    To recognise a young person in the Matamata-Piako District who displays a great work ethic and willingness to learn in their employment.

  • Ngati Haua Iwi Trust Award for Maori Contribution 
    To recognise a young person in the Matamata-Piako District who has made a contribution to the Maori Community.

  • Keystone Advice Group Award for Environmental Commitment 
    To recognise a young person in the Matamata-Piako District who has shown significant commitments to the farming and agriculture sector.

Nominations close at 5pm Friday 10 November 2017. Finalists will be announced on this page and on facebook.com/mpdcvolunteeryouth on Wednesday 22 November.

The winners will be announced at the Awards Evening Thursday 30 November 2017 at Kaimai Cheese in Waharoa. More details to come.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The Nominee must be aged between 12 and 24 years old, and either live or have lived in Matamata-Piako District during the period from 1 January 2017 to 10 November 2017.
  • You cannot nominate yourself.
  • For nominees under 18 years we request that you provide their parent/guardian’s contact details as well.
  • Members of the Volunteer Youth Ambassadors, as the organising committee, cannot be nominated or nominate anyone.
  • Members of the judging panel are not eligible to submit a nomination.
